Late Monday night, I was browsing through local music events on MySpace and came across a listing for a free show at The Streets of Tanasbourne. Since it was free admission, I clicked through with low expectations, figuring I’d be moving on in just a second. But I was surprised to find Tony Smiley, the loop-ninja.
It’s pretty amazing watching Tony compile the layers of his music. Performing his songs he switches from bass guitar to drums, to beat boxing and then laying down the lead and vocals. Each layer is looped while the next is added.
Before the first song on Tony’s profile had finished, I knew I had to check out the show. When I arrived, I was greeted with wonderfully crafted music by a truly gifted local musician.
Unfortunately, I had other plans that night so I couldn’t stay for the whole show. Luckily, Tony will be playing lots of shows over the next couple months so I should have another chance to see him perform.
Tony’s newest album will be available online soon. But first, download his album Driving Myself Sane.

I agree with wanting to listen to Tony live. I checked out his profile and was impressed with his style. Definitely something I want to check out live. I was happy to see he will be in Vancouver, WA on the 24th. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from me.

I know! Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make the 24th show at Top Shelf. Enjoy it for me. Haha!

He’s good and I will try to catch him when he comes to Vancouver. Thanks for the info about the free concerts also!
